OUR STORY
RJ Industrial was established in 1984 by Gerald Roughton after leaving Oakland Iron & Metal as a partner after a 10-year venture. RJ Torching (RJ Industrial Recycling) soon became one of the most elite portable processors of scrap iron and metal in the United States.
In the early years, RJ was awarded industrial demolition and service work contracts by Goodyear, Jackson Iron & Metal and OmniSource. In subsequent years, the team focused on expanding its off-site service work to include train derailments, larger scale industrial demo and tear-outs, coal mining equipment decommissioning, locomotive and stamping press dismantling all over the country.
In 2005, RJ purchased its first scrap metal recycling facility located on Dort Highway in Flint, Michigan. The 5.5 acre facility operates as a full-service scrap and processing yard, including heavy offloading capabilites.
Jason Roughton, the son of Jerry Roughton, acquired ownership in July 2009 after working for his dad his entire life. He is president and owner of RJ Industrial Recycling. Jason and his hardworking, dedicated team continue to strive to have the best customer service while being the safest, most efficient, reliable, and environmentally friendly processors of heavy scrap iron and metal in the industry.
